Norwegian Eliteserien 2017 – Round Eleven Review

Updated: May 29, 2017

Round Eleven took place at the weekend so here is a round up of the action:-

Saturday 27th May
Sandefjord 0 Odd 0 Att: 3,736
The opening match of Round Eleven yielded no goals as Sandefjord and Odd failed to find a way past each other meaning both sides had to settle for the point, leaving Sandefjord in ninth and Odd fourth.

Sunday 28th May
Brann 1 Aalesund 1 Att: 12,019
Hosts Brann missed out on the chance to go top of the Eliteserien table after a late Edwin Gyasi denied them all three points against Aalesund at the Brann Stadion. Kaj Ramsteijn’s own goal in the 34th minute gave the hosts the advantage but Gyasi levelled with nine minutes remaining and the hosts had to play the final six minutes a man short after Sivert Heltne Nilsen received a second yellow, however it finished all square leaving Brann still a point behind the leaders.

Haugesund 0 Sarpsborg 08 0 Att: 4,004
Sarpsborg 08 also missed the chance to go top of the table after they were held to a goalless draw at the Haugesund Stadion against Haugesund. The visitors therefore remain third on goal difference, just a point behind the leaders, whilst Haugesund are above the bottom three only on goal difference.

Kristiansund BK 1 Sogndal 1 Att: 3,509
Hosts Kristiansund slipped back into the third bottom spot after drawing at home to fellow struggler’s Sogndal at the Kristiansund Stadion. Jean Alassane Mendy put the hosts ahead nine minutes before half time but their lead was cancelled out by an Eirik Schulze strike just before the hour mark, meaning both sides took a point, leaving Sogndal two places above the bottom three on goal difference only.

Lillestrom 4 Tromsø 1 Att: 5,468
Hosts Lillestrom put in one of their best performances of the campaign so far, coming back from going behind in the opening minute to trash Tromsø at Arasen. Tromsø, who beat Rosenborg in their own backyard recently, looked like they were going to have a good evening here when they saw Mikael Ingebrigtsen put then ahead inside the opening minute. However the hosts had other ideas and levelled in the 9th minute through Chigozie Udoji and then nine minutes into the second half took the lead through Erling Knudtzon. Kent-Are Antonsen was then sent off for Tromsø in the 62nd minute and Lillestrom capitalised on their numerical advantage, seeing Knudtzon net his second in the 73rd minute and then completing his hat-trick five minutes later to complete a marvellous win for the hosts. Despite this Lillestrom do remain in second bottom although are now just a point from safety, whilst Tromsø are just a point above the drop zone in 11th.

Molde 3 Stabæk 1 Att: 7,281
Hosts Molde are within touching distance of the top six after they defeated Stabæk at the Aker Stadion. Joona Toivio gave the hosts a fourth minute lead and then Fredrik Brustad’s 37th minute strike saw the hosts two up at the break. Luc Kassi pulled a goal back for the visitors in the 58th minute and then the hosts were reduced to ten men when Fredrik Aursnes was shown a second yellow. However it mattered not for the hosts as they sealed the points when Bjorn Bergmann Sigurdarson netted in stoppage time to give them their fifth league win of the season.

Valerenga 1 Rosenborg 1 Att: 13,827
Saturday nights big game saw Valerenga and Rosenborg share a draw in the capital at Ullevaal. The visitors from Trondheim knew a win would take them three clear at the top after Brann and Sarpsborg 08 had failed to win earlier in the day, and when Milan Jevtović put the league leaders ahead on half time, this looked enough for all three points. But with six minutes remaining Herman Stengal levelled for the hosts to see them claim a point from this one. Rosenborg do still lead the way but only by a point whilst Valerenga are in eighth and incredibly only two points above the bottom three!!!

Monday 29th May
Stromsgodset 4 Viking 2 Art: 5,652
The final game of Round Eleven saw the bottom two in action and hosts Stromsgodset jumped five places into tenth after they took the points in this one. Godset took a tenth minute lead through Eirik Ulland Andersen and then doubled that lead just past the half hour mark through Jakob Glesnes. Bassel Jradi added two quick goals after half time as the hosts dominated the first hour and looked likely to give their battered opponents from Stavanger a hiding. However Viking to their credit fought back and saw Zymer Bytyqi pull one back midway through the half and then with ten minutes left Samuel Adegbenro netted another for the visitors and suddenly the hosts were twitchy. However there was to be no miracle comeback and Viking suffered their eighth loss in eleven rounds and are now already seven points from safety and still rock bottom.

Wednesday 24th May
Brumundaal 1 Lillestrom 3 Att: 1,212
Eliteserien side Lillestrom recovered from an early setback to record victory over Brumundaal at the SH-banen. Kristian Eriksen gave the underdogs a dream start by giving them a 2nd minute lead but this lead was cancelled out in the 25th minute by Baijram Ajeti before Aleksander Melgalvis gave the visitors a 52nd minute lead. And with seven minutes remaining Michal Skoda sealed the visitors passage into Round Three by netting a third.

Byasen 0 Aalesund 2 Att: 215
A goal in each half was enough to see Aalesund safely negotiate Round Two after defeating Byasen at the Byasen Arena. Valmir Berisha netted nine minutes before the break to give the visitors the lead and Lars Veldwijk sealed the victory with four minutes to go.

Finnsnes 0 Tromsø 2 Att: 534
Tromsø are safely through to Round Three after victory over Finnsnes at the Finnsnes Stadion. Aron Sigurdarson put Tromsø ahead in the 29th minute and they got a second in the 57th minute when Jostein Gundersen netted which was enough for the Eliteserien visitors to progress.

Hodd 1 Molde 2 Att: 1,083
Two goals in the final nine minutes gave Molde victory in their match against Hodd at the Hoddvoll Stadion. Bendik Rise gave the hosts a shock lead with just over twenty minutes left but Molde found a leveller with nine minutes remaining through Thomas Amang before they won it in stoppage time thanks to Etzaz Hussain to squeeze through to the next round.

Krakeroy 2 Valerenga 2 (aet; Valerenga won 3-2 on penalties) Att: 2,162
VIF survived a huge scare to squeeze through on penalties after extra time against Krakeroy at the Fredrikstad Stadion. It looked plain sailing for the visitors when goals from Henrik Johansen and Ghayas Zahid either side of the half hour mark had Valerenga two goals up at the break, however Oliver Alphonso a minute into the second half and then a leveller from Sivert Nikolay Thorsen with just over fifteen minutes remaining took the game to extra time. Ghayas Zahid received two bookings, the second one with eight minutes of extra time left, to see him sent off leaving the visitors down to ten men, but neither side could find a winner so penalties it was, and the Eliteserien side won the shootout to progress.

Lysekloster 0 Brann 2 Att: 1,495
Bergen side Brann saw off Lysekloster at the Lysekloster Framo Idrettspark to progress into Round Three. Torgeir Borven netted in the 25th minute to give the Eliteserien side the lead and they doubled this advantage seven minutes into the second half when Sivert Heltne Nilsen netted for the visitors, and it proved enough to progress.

Moss 1 Sarpsborg 08 3 Att: 1,212
Eliteserien pacesetters Sarpsborg 08 continued their terrific start to the season by defeating Moss at the Mellos Stadion to reach Round Three of the Cup. Tobias Heintz put the visitors ahead just before the half hour mark but were then pegged back seven minutes later when Tim Reinback levelled for the hosts. However Patrick Mortensen restored Sarpsborg’s lead midway through the half before Erton Fejzullahu sealed the win in stoppage time.

Pors Grenland 1 Odd 3
Odd secured their passage into Round Three after defeating Pors Grenland at the Pors Stadion. Riku Riski put Odd ahead midway through the first half but saw the hosts level through Tobias Lauritsen right on half time. Fredrik Jensen restore Odd’s lead five minutes into the second period before Oliver Berg sealed the deal by netting with a minute remaining.

Raufoss 0 Sogndal 2 Att: 792
Sogndal are into Round Three after seeing off Raufoss at the NAMMO Stadion. Both goals came in the final fifteen minutes through Espen Naess Lund and Bendik Bye to send the Eliteserien side through.

Skeid 2 Stromsgodset 4 (aet) Att: 766
Drammen side Godset twice came from behind to finally see off Skeid after extra time at the Nordre Asen Kunstgress. The hosts saw Nassan Yusuf give them the lead in the 11th minute, only to see the visitors hit back just past the half hour through Mounir Hamoud. David Tavakoli then restored Skeid’s lead on half time as the Eliteserien strugglers looked in trouble but Bassel Jradi struck an 87th minute equaliser to take the tie into extra time. And goals from Pontus Engblom and Jradi again in the first period of extra time saw the visitors through to the next round.

Vard Haugesund 0 Haugesund 6 Att: 880
Eliteserien side Haugesund breezed through against their lower league tennants Vard Haugesund at the Haugesund Stadion. Shuaibu Lalle Ibraham netted on 11 and 16 minutes before Filip Kiss added a third in the 24th minute to see the Eliteserien side in total control. Eirik Huseklepp added a fourth with ten minutes left before Johnny Per Buduson and Huseklepp again added two more before the end to put gloss on the scoreline.

Verdal 0 Kristiansund BK 4 Att: 225
Eliteserien newboys Kristiansund BK are safely through to Round Three after seeing off Verdal at the Coop Arena. Rocky Rexhep Lekaj gave the visitors a fourth minute lead and then Benjamin Stokke doubled that lead in the 68th minute. Jonas Ronningen three with fifteen minutes left and the scoring was completed three minutes from time through Andreas Hopmark, meaning the visitors progress.

Orn-Horten 3 Sandefjord 1 Att: 500
Sandefjord suffered the embarrassment of being only one of two Eliteserien sides to go out at the Second Round stage this season after they lost to Orn-Horten at the Lystlunden Stadion. Two Lasse Bransdal goals early in the second half had the hosts in dreamland and although Sandefjord threatened a late comeback when Peter Kovacs netted with four minutes left, Artan Brovina sealed the home sides passage into Round Three a minute later.

Tynset 1 Rosenborg 9 Att: 3,026
Eliteserien leaders Rosenborg put their recent dodgy league form to one side after they hit Tynset for nine at Nytromoen to progress into Round Three. Goals from Milan Jevtović and Birgir Meling had the Trondheim side two up at the break but then Matthias Vilhjalmsson, Tore Reginiussen, Anders Konradsen, Mike Jensen and Fredrik Midtsjo all netted to see the visitors into a seven goal lead. Jorn Ligard pulled one back with ten minutes to go for the hosts but two stoppage time goals from Vilhjalmsson and Elbasan Rashani completed an emphatic win for the cup holders.

Thursday 25th May
Asker 0 Stabæk 5 Att: 1,440
Five second half goals saw Stabæk progress into Round Three at the expense of Asker at the Foyka Kunstgress. Two early second half strikes from Sindre Mauritz-Hansen and Luc Kassi set the visitors on their way and then two more from Mauritz-Hansen and a late Alex Nimely strike completed a terrific second half for the Eliteserien visitors.

Egersund 3 Viking 1 Att: 1,357
Vikings woes continued after they were dumped out of the Cup by local Second Division side Egersund at the Idrettsparken. Bubacarr Sumareh gave the hosts an 18th minute lead and then things got worse for the Eliteserien visitors when Usman Sale received a straight red card in the 34th minute. Viking did briefly level through Mathias Bringaker five minutes into the second half but Chris Sleveland then restored Egersund’s lead in the 62nd minute before Sverre Larshus Larsen sealed the hosts passage into Round Three with a third in stoppage time.

So two Eliteserien sides, Sandefjord and Viking, are out of this season’s competition. All the others remain and here is the full draw for the Last 32 which takes place at the end of the month:-
