BARNSLEY are heading to Wembley for a second time this season after they beat Walsall 3-1 on the night and 6-1 on aggregate in the Sky Bet League One Play-Offs.

The Tykes went into the game leading 3-0 from the first leg thanks to a Jason Demetriou own goal and a Sam Winnall brace at Oakwell on Saturday evening and tonight it got better after goals from Adam Hammill, Ashley Fletcher and Josh Brownhill made sure the club was heading back to Wembley on Sunday week.

It only took 18 minutes for it to get worse for the hosts as Hammill beat the offside trap to put Paul Heckingbottom’s side into a 4-0 aggregate lead. Brownhill could have extended Barnsley lead just three minutes later but his final touch was heavy and it went wide.

Walsall lacked options inside the area and the moves broke down that they were creating. The visitors keeper’ Adam Davies was called into action during the first half but he was making great saves as usual as he continued his fine form from the first leg.

Walsall after the break looked to get back into the tie but it wasn’t to be as Barnsley doubled their lead on the night and extended the aggregate score to 5-0 when Fletcher, on loan from Premier League Outfit Manchester United, found the net to put the game beyond doubt before Brownhill added a third on the night and sixth on aggregate.

Walsall’s Jordan Cook scored a stunning late consolation goal but it wasn’t more than that and Barnsley, who finished eleven points behind the hosts were heading to Wembley.
